As I have said a few times throughout my blogs I work away a lot doing Civil Construction, and every swing is different with the way it goes on our 11 day swing.
I’m in a situation with this swing an one I don’t want but that’s the way it goes, 18 months ago I had a new hip replacement on the right side, well my left has decided to go haha but it’s going down hill pretty quick were, I’m struggling to walk, sit for long periods of a time, basically like two turtles making it out in the desert Lol got to laugh or I’m in trouble.
I have been with this crew for around 8 months a great bunch of guys, we’re they are doing everything to make sure I can keep going for a while longer with work so much so, they carry my bags from the truck to the room, get my tea an lunches for me, yell at me if I get on the ground to help, there doing more than I could ask seriously it has blown me away.
Matty the supervisor and the crew have told the company my situation, they have replied let’s work with ( Poppy me lol ) to make sure we can make it easier an bearable for him.
I have to say I’m 65 and have met some amazing people through out life and ones that have become life friends. These guys are not just amazing but incredible in so many ways words will never express my feelings of appreciation in what they are doing, they tell me I’m a great guy and want me to be a huge part of the crew for as long as I can.
To back it up one of the managers let me know the other day that when it gets to much as in, when I can’t get in the roller, walk and everything else, they will work it out in where I can keep working with the company in the city , one that puts no extra strain on my body
You know when times get hard and we’re we are in the way society is at the moment, then a long come a crew of guys that you work with as work mates, we’re a bit different I’d say as we are all one unit for 11 days, work, eat, and socialise as a group of workers, but they have shown me so much and what it’s like to work with a group of guys that sincerely look at you as there true mate, The company has shown that I’m just not a number that works for them but a person that can do with a hand in life, again my appreciation can’t be explained, I get a bit teary thinking about it as I can not remember such a great bunch of guys and a company that sees me as a person one that needs a bit of a helping hand in life.
When I was a young fella my dad all ways said ( you never stop learning until the nails are going in ) dad can honestly say that as his 95 and still willing to learn, what I learned the true value of work mates the ones that make sure there mates are good, with mind, soul and heart. This group of guys and the company have shown me a lot of things that are really valuable to life.
