There Was A Time!
Yes, there came a time when I was in my mid-fifties. I took a good look in the mirror and realized that I wasn’t going anywhere financially at all. I was doing something I loved and had an amazing passion for: coaching sports and helping people of all ages live their dream of reaching the highest level, from professional to amateur or just having fun. For me, I was just living day by day and struggling to pay the bills. The heart was there, but not the wallet.

I was thrust into FIFO work, a whole new ball game that I was really inexperienced with, especially the two-on-one swing up north in the Pilbara. Then came the hip replacement, which once again changed my life, demanding attention as to where I was going and what I was doing, considering my advancing age. At 62, I consider myself fortunate to have landed full-time work with FIFO, but it presents a different scenario with constant driving and constantly changing bases, ranging from four-day stints to two-week stays. Things have changed again in one way for the better and in another, as we get older it does get a bit harder living out of a suitcase.
That Time Has Once Again Come Upon Me.
Yes, once again, I reflect on personal circumstances and consider which areas of my life could benefit from more attention. Health is the most important as I’m getting older, so yes, that’s very important as I want to see my kids and grandkids grow and see their lives prosper. Work-life balance is going to take some attention as we do 11 days on and 3 days off, so that’s going to take some work to make sure I can get through it for nine months of the season. Finances for me are very important as I’m earning really good money for the position I do. With that, I’ll be budgeting more tightly than usual, keeping my expenses down, and setting financial goals. I already have a goal and dream to go overseas to Vietnam, which will be well-deserved. LOL.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall!
It doesn’t hurt to take a good look at yourself and ask the question: in life, what is important and needs attention to keep going forward? There are some things that do need a attention, and there are others that we naturally prioritize as we go. Family is important, as well as keeping in touch with friends when we can. My kids and grandkids are very important to me, especially when we are so close. One aspect that really needs attention is my love life, which just isn’t happening at the moment. I have three friends with benefits, but I want to go to the next level and have a real relationship—one that I can enjoy for the rest of my life. I want a relationship with meaning, soul, good friendship, understanding, and love. It’s something I miss and would enjoy so much: to be loved again. But for now, I find contentment and happiness in knowing where I am and where I’m going in life. It’s a good start to pay attention to the important aspects of life.
