Am I a person who complains and goes on and on about everything in life? Or am I simply observing how society looks at everything from a different perspective? The way we live and think in the modern day is indeed intriguing.
Respect & Attitude…
Is a big one for me, and in many ways, I have noticed that as I get older, the younger, middle, and even older generations have lost the meanings of respect and attitude. There was a time when people respected their elders, women, and even men, as well as those they worked with. Your identity and actions in life were important, and attitude played a significant role. However, in so many ways, an attitude has nearly disappeared. One area where this is particularly evident is in the workplace, where many individuals possess the wrong attitude. This also extends to society as a whole, as the way we think can reflect a negative attitude. I’m not saying everyone, but there is a small majority that simply doesn’t care anymore about two key aspects of life: respect and attitude. However, in my family and among my friends, we continue to uphold these values with good morals.
A Couple Of Subject’s That Come To Mind…
Income Inequality – There is a need all over the world to address the gap between the rich, middle class, and the poor, ensuring a fair distribution of wealth and opportunities. The Australian government seems to be aware of this issue as they strive to stay ahead in improving people’s lives. However, there are often additional obstacles that arise, making it harder for individuals and families to make progress. As the cost of living continues to rise, many families and individuals are left struggling to keep up with the fast-paced growth.
Access to Education – Education should be accessible to all individuals. The cost of education really needs to be looked at all levels, from early years to college and university. You accrue a huge debt before you even graduate in your course. Again, if your parents are very well off, that’s a bonus. If not, you’re in debt for $20,000 or more, depending on the course selected, just to have a better education.
Mental Health & Support – There should be increased awareness and support for mental health, including access to affordable and quality mental healthcare services. Look at the waiting list in hospitals for health services, where you get categorized as 1 to 5. The higher the category, the longer the wait. In my case, I was categorized as a 3 and had to reach a point where my hip movement was just impossible to be marked as a 1 or 2, thus waiting for 9 months for the operation. Each specialist, whether it’s for joints, heart, lungs, cancer, tumors, or any other illness, has a different waiting time depending on your level of urgency.
Social Justice – They say and believe that steps should be taken to eliminate systemic discrimination and promote equality for all individuals, irrespective of their race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or religion. Now, if you are in your early 50s and you have lost your position at work, the chances of getting another position will happen, but not overnight. Many companies don’t consider experience as they used to; there is a different perspective in the workforce towards age. As we get older, it becomes so much harder – it’s like there is a level for 50 to 55 and another level for 55 to 60. Anything over can be a major struggle for both women and men. It’s nearly called the scrap heap, haha! But no discrimination towards age at all.
I just went over a few things that could be addressed with. I’m not politically correct or believe I’m one with full knowledge of it, but over my years in life, it’s going so wrong with different things.
My grandson at school has to refer to his parents as guardians because many have different lifestyles and are brought up by grandparents, single parents, uncles, sisters, etc. But Kado has parents, and that’s what they are – his mom and dad. Christmas is now called the festive season. Workers at lotto booths are not allowed to say, “Hope you have a win” or “That’s the winning ticket” as it can build up false hope. These are just a few examples of how politically correct we are going, and it’s so wrong in every way.
There are a lot of subjects that could benefit from a change or a tweak to correct or improve them:
- Digital divide
- Political transparency
- Work-life balance
- Consumerism and materialism
We don’t need to keep up with the Joneses on material possessions or the latest technology that comes out every month. For me, I’m happy with what I have, and if I need something, I save and pay cash for it. I’m sick of being in debt, and why would you want to get into debt just to keep up with unnecessary needs in society?
Now, like I said, I’m not one to bitch, whine, or forever go on about things that can seriously affect our lives. These subjects could be addressed in our modern society, but I feel we are going backwards and getting worse with our way of thought, attitude, and respect towards all members of society. Can I fix it? Definitely not. But I, like most parents, can make sure I’m there with the kids at whatever age and with the grandkids, instilling the right attitude and respect for all cultures and ages. I can learn to adjust to the ever-changing and politically incorrect movements that grow every day in our lives.
